I took the day off on Wednesday and Jack and I had a fun Mommy/Son date! He seemed really excited about it and asked me when he woke up if it was his “Mommy Day!” So cute. Katie stayed with Emmy so that we could have some alone time, which I think he really needed (he is great with E, but I am sure he gets tired of me always holding her, feeding her, etc…) and it was SO FUN to be able to be 100% focused on him again!
We had such a nice time talking at breakfast (it was literally like I was having a talk with a little adult friend!) and when the waitress came, he just looked at her and said “Can I please have pancakes and bacon?” I was so proud of his politeness! The next part of our date was a trip to Target, where we had a little “I want” meltdown (those words grate on me like no other)…reminder to myself not to take a 2 year old to Target where it is like paradise of “things!” Then it was off to Gymnastics – by this time it was 12:00 (Jack’s naptime) and the real meltdown started…we got about 1/2 way into class, and my little tester (he is SO pushing his boundaries these days!) decided that it was okay to yell “Get off of that!” to another little boy…WELL – you can imagine how that went over with Mommy! We promptly had a time-out and that turned into a 20 minute fit outside, which turned into a trip home to bed…
Overall, it was wonderful to spend some quality 1-on-1 time with my favorite boy…I recently bought a Groupon for a kids cooking class, so I hope to do this again next month and try something new with my #1 boy. He really is very sweet (most of the time), but we are definitely starting to have more “terrible 2” moments (I thought I might escape this – silly me!) – he is SO strong-willed and self-reliant (EVERYTHING must be done himself), that it is frustrating at times…but I have to remind myself that these are positive traits when he gets older – just hard now!!!
In an Emmy update…our little girl has been battling a cold for the past 2 weeks. I took her in last Thursday to the doctor to check for an ear infection and it was clear. We also have an appointment with the ENT doctor next week, as we noticed soon after birth a little “growth” in one of her nostrils. Well, this has gotten a bit larger over time, and it is starting to affect her breathing, especially when she has a cold. Our pediatrician thinks that it is just an internal hemangeoma or cyst, but we are hoping that the ENT can figure out the next step so that our little gal can “breathe easier!” I also think she is teething…Sleep has been TERRIBLE the past 2 weeks and she has literally been sleeping in between us from 11pm on…not great for anyone involved, but the only way that she will stay asleep. I am hoping to start the sleep training process in the next month or so, once we get this nose thing figured out…I hope it is just a simple, painless fix for her. Other than that, she is eating great (hasn’t tried anything that she doesn’t like!), grabbing everything in site, and trying to creep around the floor!
We are off to Indiana tomorrow to see my grandparents and then Grammy and Gpa Dale are watching the kiddos on Sunday so that Scott and I can go to the Colts game with our good friends, the Gonsos. WooHoo, GO HORSE!
