First sibling sleepover

Scott is out of town all week, and normally when he is on a trip, Jack bunks with me and we have special sleepovers.

Both Jack & Emma were asking me all day today if we could have a big "Mommy and Kiddo" sleepover tonight. So...

They actually fell asleep pretty quickly! And don't worry, I moved Sophia after this shot - she will join in the bassinet next to us. :-)

Emma insisted on going to sleep holding Soph's hand, so sweet.

Sophia...how time flies!

Well, I hate to break it to ya, Soph, but Mommy is already treating you like the third kid...your blog updates are way behind, photos are fewer, and you have a certain 4 and 2 year old in your face 24/7. THE GOOD NEWS is that since you are my first baby as a full-time mom, I rarely leave your side, and you get to enjoy the "all-you-can-eat buffet at your leisure. :-)

Very behind, but here are some Sophia highlights of the last 2 months:

--2 month check-up was 11lb 12oz (75%) and 23 3/4" long (off the chart).

--eating from one side about every 2.5 hours

--sleeping about 5 naps during the day, usually after eating

--"last" feeding around 10pm, sleeps until 3am, eats, up again at 6am, sleeps until 8:30

--first long road trip to Pops Lake in July - 13 hours and she did great!

--started to really SMILE and coo at 2.5 months! Has a cute dimple on her left cheek!

Other items of note at 2 months:
--took a couple of bottles; 4 oz
--still doesn't mind tummy time and has a very strong neck
--LOVES to snuggle - favorite position is on our chests or standing up to look around
--getting more blond hair
--eyes still very dark blue
--much more alert / hands opening more and more

Updates at 3 months:

--no doc check in, but I bet she's close to 13/15 lbs and seems longer every day! Still resembles Jack to most people

--SUPER smiley! Love her big, gummy smile and her sweet breath in the morning is one of my favorite things

--last feeding is around 8pm, sleeps until around 4am, back down (next to me...awesome) until 6am, and then she LOVES sleeping in until around 9am all snuggled on Mommys side of the bed. It is adorable. Soph is still in bassinet next to our bed (mainly as there is nowhere else to put her!!).

--VERY laid back personality unless she is hungry or has gotten accidentally kicked by a sibling - then she lets you know it!
Literally is strapped to me in her Ergo on about every outing, and is out like a light - it is like the magic baby Tylenol PM.

--now really likes her pacifier-whimpers when it falls out during naps

--adores her brother & sister - smiles and laughs (yes, we are getting certified belly laughs!) when they talk to her

--clutches onto my shirt or necklace while nursing and really holding onto our hands as a soothing mechanism

--eating about every 3 hours, sometimes both breasts, especially at night. She is a very quick nurser...super easy. I should really pump and let Scott give her bottles more, but it is so much more work...

Other fun facts at 3 months:
--Nicknames: Soph, Soph McGoph, Gopher
--smelliest toots ever! And loud!
--rolling from front to back and trying back to front. Likes to sleep on her side.
--naps 50% of the time in Emma's crib, or in bouncy seat or my arms :-). A solid 3-4 40 minute naps a day.
--Size 2 diapers, moved up to 3-6month clothing
--has discovered eating her hands and blowing raspberries
--does not really spit up much
--loves to be outdoors and enjoys watching the trees move
--DOES NOT like loud noises or to be startled
--doesn't mind the car - likes to look at herself in the mirror
--still likes tummy time; close to being about to sit with props
--experiencing a little separation anxiety with me - cries when I leave her view. :-(
--just so happy. Her big smile makes my day.
--I might be a little obsessed with Sophia - I seriously want to smother her with sweet kisses and squeeze her all day!

Sophia, you are a light to all of us and we LOVE you so very much! It is so fun to watch your big brother and big sister dote on you and introduce you to everyone they meet as "Our baby Sophie Mae."

But stop, time, you are losing your baby-ness and it's making me sad!

THE Fall

Well...surprisingly, Jack wins the prize for the first Walti kid stitches...only surprising to me because little sis Emma THINKS and BELIEVES that she is also 4 and can keep up (and sometimes outdo) with Jack (and she does!)

Poor lovey fell pretty hard while scootering home from the beach today. Scott took off all week for an impromptu "Staycation" (more on that fun later!), thank goodness. Jack just hit some bumpy sidewalk and flipped face first - thank goodness for that helmet!

We weren't sure whether stitches were needed or not, but after a couple of hours, Scott took him to the new Lurie Childrens Hospital (said it was gorgeous for you Chicago moms!) where they gave him 3 stitches in his chin and cleaned up his knee.

Scott said he did well - very inquisitive (shocking...) and just SAD when they told him they had to stitch it up. They numbed it with "fairy dust" cream (he was very concerned about getting a shot), and had to strap him down and cover his eyes, which I'm sure was the worst part. I was sad that I couldn't go with my little boy to hold his hand (3 very tired kiddos at the hospital at 9pm sounds like Hell), but they seem to have made the most of it and had a pretty good Daddy/Son date. :-)

So, Cheers to Jack for his first "battle scar" - I think it makes him feel better that his Daddy has a scar in the sand exact place, too.

We are going CAMPING tomorrow as part of our family week!! The kids are so excited and so am I...first camping trip - should be interesting!!!!!

The fun continued...

Aunt Kitten is a trooper!

We took her all over the city and most of it entailed a piggy-back ride for Jack or consoling a whiny Emma!

Day 2 of Kitten Week included...sleeping in! The late night on Monday at the concert must have done the kids in, and E slept until 8:30 with Jack at 9 - unheard of!

After a sleepy morning, we headed to a northern suburb for a Potbelly's picnic and fun at a great park with a splash pad. Jack made a girlfriend there...

Our intent was to then head to a pool next door, but it was closed! Big Bummer, but the kids rallied and we came home for naps.

That night we just hung out and then Kensi and I went shopping...I have not been shopping in a "real store" for so long (I am an online shopper) and am seriously amazed at the 80s style right now...looks like I will be staying out of that trend - TERRIBLE!!!! It was really fun to get out with her, though, and she found some things to start 8th grade in style. :-)

Day 3 - Lincoln Park Zoo! A pretty hot morning, but we got out of the house, swung by the farmers market for Club Sprouts (the kids get prizes for trying new fresh veg/fruits - its really cute), and on to the zoo for 3 hours. Another picnic lunch (almost every day this summer!) and a lot of calories burned by walking there and back and more piggy-back rides!

An afternoon of rice Kristie treats, 3-D marshmallow projects, and drawing and then more Olympics (what will we do when they are over?!)

Day 4 we had big plans at the Special Olympics Rubber Duck Derby! The Special Olympics sells thousands of rubber ducks to benefit the charity and then dumps them in the Chicago River and have a race...super fun! As a charity near to our family's heart, it was a great opportunity to teach the kids about charity and people different than ourselves. So, we went downtown to view the race and have fun at the accompanying festival.

A lazy afternoon followed by Sister Night! Every summer during her week here I plan a night out for just the 2 of us. This year we did dinner, ComedySportz (an improv comedy competition) and froyo. It was a great night!

isn't she adorable?)

Day 5 was supposed to be Beach Day, but of course our hot weather decided to turn cool and windy. So, we ventured to the Exporitorium, an indoor play space up north a bit and had a blast! We were there for 3 hours and I think Kensi had as much fun as Jack & Em. Per usual, Soph slept the whole time in her magical sleeping Ergo. :-)

We wrapped the week up with Movie and Pizza night where Emma snuggled during the scary parts of Tangled with Kitten.

Yesterday we drove Kitten back to Indy and stayed last night and today. I'm glad we did, as it was a fun weekend! Lots of fishing (jack loves this new hobby), swimming (possibly the last time of the summer?), and then a trip to the Indiana State Fair - Pappaw and Nana have taken Jack the last 3 years, so we couldn't let this tradition die!

Kitten - THANK YOU for all of your help this week - we had a blast and hope you did too! I love that the kiddos will have many memories of their special summer weeks with Aunt Kitten!

We Love You!!

***and have a great start to the year in 8th grade!!!!!
